The people of Paignton & Preston deserve a mayor who is passionate about the whole of Torbay & is determined to take the Bay forward.

I was born in Paignton, lived & worked in the town for many years & am proud of what has been achieved since I was elected Mayor in 2005: our new Library & Information Centre, the My Place youth Facility now taking shape at Parkfield, the innovation suites for new businesses at the “outstanding” South Devon College at Whiterock, Kings Ash school re built, new sports & play facilities, the Palace Theatre restored, improved parks, gardens & beach facilities, the new Travel Lodge & Premier Inn hotels, housing projects for local families at Foxhole & Borough Road, the new community centre at Foxhole & more!

Children & young people’s Bay

Over the last few years there has been a huge improvement in services provided for children & young people in Torbay, although I accept much more still remains to be done, especially in improving work in safeguarding. We must also maintain our momentum for regeneration; far too many of the Bay’s youngsters leave the area after they have finished their schooling in order to find better paid work & more affordable housing elsewhere. So our plans for community prosperity must “turn the tide” of youngsters leaving the Bay. I would also like to see many more young people establishing careers & starting businesses here.

Believe in the job, believe in the Bay

Only in Torbay would folk be queuing up for election to a position they do not believe in. But does anybody really remember a golden age in Torbay, before we had an elected Mayor?

In the first 7 years of being a unitary Council from 1998 we endured 5 Council Leaders & 3 complete changes of political control. In the late ‘90s we had double digit Council tax increases, the saga of empty flower beds & Coral Island & much else just left to rot.
